Lateral Shoot Induction and Flowering Responses of Stock , Mathiola incana and Petunia , Petunia hybrida by Growth Regulator and Light Treatment
Roh Seung-Moon

Abstract
To compare the effectiveness of ancymidol, ethephon, and dikegulac treatment on the growth and flowering responses of main shoot and lateral shoot development, stock Mathiola incana and three varieties of petunia, Petunia hybrida was tested. The purpose of these studies was to produce a compact and vigorous plant with many lateral shoots and flowering simultaneously from the main and lateral shoots.
Ancymidol was the most effective for main shoot growth retardation and lateral shoot induction, producing good looking plants is stock. Ethephon might be used as a lateral shoot inducing growth regulator when it is treated early in the vegetative growing stage to inhibit the main shoot apex activity. Dikegulac treatment failed to retard the main shoot elongation, yat failed to induce lateral shoots.
With petunia, ancymidol at 10 ppm in ¢¥White Ensine¢¥ and ethephon at 400 ppm in ¢¥White¢¥, ¢¥Rose¢¥, and ¢¥Scarlet Ensine¢¥ under short day condition was effective to induce flowering lateral shoots. Although dikegulac induced many lateral shoots, they failed to flower.
In conclusion, the most effective chemical was ancymidol in both stock and petunia to produce a compact and vigorous plant with many well developed lateral shoots.
